Take a few seconds to help the British Lung Foundation raise funds for first-class research into interstitial lung disease.
The British Lung Foundation (BLF) is a valuable UK charity that works hard to help those suffering from lung disease. There are 43 different lung conditions, each condition is different and affects the lungs in a different way. The BLF has helped fund research into each and every condition. A total of £18 million has been invested in this first-class research, but there is still more work that can be done.
The BLF is currently campaigning for more research to be undertaken to help those suffering from interstitial lung disease. Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD) is a general term that includes a variety of chronic lung disorders, including asbestosis. When a person has ILD, the lung is affected in three ways. First, the lung tissue is damaged in some known or unknown way. Second, the walls of the air sacs in the lung become inflamed. Finally, scarring (or fibrosis) begins in the interstitium (or tissue between the air sacs), and the lung becomes stiff. Asbestos exposure is an example of a known cause of interstitial lung disease.
How you can help…
Fabian Hamilton MP has tabled an Early Day Motion. He is asking that the Government focus on interstitial lung diseases such as asbestosis. Increased Government funding is essential to further valuable research. Funds are also desperately needed to provide specialist-nursing care for sufferers of this disease. Increasing numbers of patients need better access to treatment and care.
You can get involved with this campaign by e-mailing your MP and asking them to sign the Early Day Motion. Please visit http://www.lunguk.org/ where you can find out how to do this.
If you or somebody you are close to is affected by interstitial lung disease you will already appreciate just how difficult and traumatic it can be. Sufferers need support in a whole range of different ways. The British Lung Foundation does all it possibly can to help provide this support. Please do all you can to ensure that this good work may continue and e-mail your MP today.

John Pickering and Partners LLP
John Pickering and Partners LLP is a specialist legal practice that has represented claimants in the leading asbestos "test cases" in the last ten years. The firm represented Sylvia Barker in Barker v Corus (UK) Plc, a case that highlighted the legal tactics of employers and insurers trying to cut back their compensation liabilities to mesothelioma sufferers, and which prompted the amendment of the Compensation Act 2006 to ensure full compensation for mesothelioma claims. The firm represented two of the three claimants in the Fairchild appeal, in which the insurance industry tried unsuccessfully to block compensation altogether for mesothelioma sufferers unable to identify which of two or more sources of asbestos exposure had caused their illness.
The firm represented Alice Jefferson, a mesothelioma sufferer, whose illness and compensation claim against Cape Asbestos were featured in the important documentary "Alice: A Fight For Life." Shown by Yorkshire Television in July 1982, the programme was an important catalyst for legal change and public awareness of the plight of the victims of asbestos.
